#LoveLincsPlants was a National Lottery Heritage Fund partnership between the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, the Natural History Museum in London, the Sir Joseph Banks Society, Lincolnshire Naturalists’ Union and the University of Lincoln to inspire a new generation of botanists.
This citizen-science project not only trained volunteers in plant identification, it also offered additional skills such as specimen mounting, archiving and scanning, ensuring that volunteers are trained in all aspects of the herbarium. As we enter the legacy phase of the project (2022 – 2026) we aim to continue to develop the new herbarium with the help of local volunteers; creating a valuable scientific resource to understand how plants are responding to a changing environment. These are typical quotes from #LoveLincsPlants volunteers:
  •   I’m a young person who loves to explore the countryside.
  •   I use my experience in herbal medicine to support #LoveLincsPlants
  •   I’m using the fine motor skills gained as a NHS surgeon to mount plant specimens
  •   ‘Not a clue’ on botany but use my IT skills to support #LoveLincsPlants digitisation

The Collection

The Sir Joseph Banks Society is playing a key part in the #LoveLincsPlants project by creating an online database that enables researchers and others to access the collection globally. LoveLincsPlants is one of the collections that together form the Lincolnshire Herbarium housed in the Joseph Banks Centre in Horncastle, U.K
